Moldova Disaster and Climate Risk Reduction Project Phase I
Donors: UNDP, BCPR and Government of Austria Main Partners: Ministry of Interior, Civil Protection and Emergency Situation Service, Ministry of Environment, Hydromet Service, LPAs, NGOs Timeframe: Total Budget: US$1,100,000 Project objective: Reduce disaster and climate risks in Moldova and thus contribute to the attainment of country development strategies and the MDGs Expected project outputs: Disaster risk assessment capacities strengthened and priorities identified at the national level to inform country disaster risk and climate risk management strategies and program development Vulnerabilities reduced and capacities strengthened to manage climate risks at local levels Strengthened capacity of UN Country Team to manage disaster and climate risks Main results achieved: National Disaster Risk Management Strategy and Action Plan drafted National Disaster Observatory established Local Risk Management Toolkit developed and tested Risk assessments undertaken in 20 vulnerable communities and 10 innovative risk reduction pilot projects implemented Increased capacities of DRR practitioners at national and local levels

Donors: Bureau of Crisis Prevention and Recovery (BCPR) Main Partners: Ministry of Interior, Civil Protection and Emergency Situation Service and its affiliated training centers, Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Health, Crisis Medicine Training Center, Ministry of Education, Hydromet Service, LPAs, NGOs and CBOs. Timeframe: Total Budget: US$1,000,000 Project objective: Reduce disaster and climate risks in Moldova through the development of national and local risk management capacities Expected project outputs: Coordination, planning, and monitoring capacities enhanced to execute the National Disaster Risk Management Strategy Key stakeholders and society have improved DRR awareness and knowledge, as well as strengthened ability to develop own capacity Regional and Local level risk management replicated and upscaled in Moldova

Response to the Drought 2012 Project (Emergency Response)
Donors: BCPR and OCHA Main Partners: Ministry of Agriculture, Civil Protection and Emergency Situations Service, State Chancellery Timeframe: Total Budget: US$200,000 Project objective: Support the government and relevant institutions in coordination efforts and developing framework related to emergency response and early recovery. Expected project outputs: Support to the government and other entities in coordination and impact assessment effort related to emergency response and recovery is provided The recovery framework with incorporation of short term rehabilitation measures is developed Sustainable medium-term and long-term measures to help communities strengthen resilience to natural disasters and adapt agricultural production to climate change is ensured Most vulnerable families are supported with fodder to sustain their livestock during the critical winter months

Clima East: Ecosystem-based adaptation and mitigation
Donors: EU Main Partners: Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Agriculture, Agency “Moldsilva”, Agency for Land Relations and Cadastre, Orhei District Council, Association of mayors from Orhei District Timeframe: Total Budget: US$694,805 Project objective: Demonstrate a natural resource management model in the pastures and forests of Moldova which increases ecosystems’ capacity to sequester carbon under pending climate risks, while at the same time retaining biodiversity and economic values Expected project outputs: Pasture and community forest restoration plans for Orhei National Park area designed Forest and pasture restoration projects implemented Carbon assessment and monitoring system in place

Supporting Moldova’s National Climate Change Adaptation Planning Process
Donors: Government of Austria Main Partners: Ministry of Environment, State Chancellery, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Regional Development and Construction, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Health, Hydromet, LPAs, NGOs, CBOs Timeframe: Total Budget: US$952,320 Project Objective: Support Moldova to put in place its National Adaptation Plan (NAP) process contributing to and building upon existing development planning strategies and processes and to implement priority adaptation actions Expected projects outputs: Institutional and policy frameworks for medium- to long-term gender-sensitive adaptation planning and budgeting are in place Institutional and technical capacities for iterative development of comprehensive NAP strengthened Adaptation interventions in priority sectors implemented including demonstration projects at a local level to catalyse replication and up-scaling
