1 WELCOME TO ALL OUR LADY MEMBERS Competition Talk Saturday 7 March 2015

2 Aim To provide information on the range of competitions available to our lady members at Windlesham Golf Club that are organised on their behalf by the Ladies’ Section.

3 MAJOR COMPETITIONS CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP CLUB CUP – Spring Meeting – Autumn Meeting SUMMER SINGLES KNOCKOUT SUMMER FOURSOMES KNOCKOUT LADY CAPTAIN’S TROPHY

4 CLUB CUP Awarded to members with the best aggregate score over the Spring and Autumn Meetings Open to all members with a competition handicap Gold Cup awarded to the member with the lowest gross score over the 2 days Silver Cup awarded to the member with the lowest net score whose handicap is 20 or lower Bronze Cup awarded to the member with the lowest net score whose handicap is 21 and above 2014 winners are Sarah Wilmore (Gold) Angela Riches (Silver) Joanna Lambert (Bronze) Entry into SLCGA Spring Knockout Division A or B

5 SPRING MEETING Held in May each year. Open to all Lady members with a competition handicap. 18 hole medal competition with evening meal and prize giving Rushmoor Trophy for lowest gross medal score. Prizes also for 2nd & 3rd best gross medal score Gerry Price Trophy for best net medal score. Prizes also for 2nd & 3rd best net score Additional prizes for nearest the pin, straightest drive and Best front and Best Back 9 holes.

6 AUTUMN MEETING Held in September each year Open to all Lady members with a competition handicap 18 hole medal competition with Evening Meal and Prize giving Sheildon Trophy awarded to the member with the lowest gross medal score, prizes for 2nd & 3rd gross medal Score Exmoor Trophy awarded the to the member with the lowest net medal score, prizes for 2nd & 3rd best net medal score Additional Prizes For the nearest the pin, straightest drive, Best front and back 9 holes. Club Cup Gold, Silver and Bronze Trophies awarded at this meeting.

7 CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP Held in July on Club Championship weekend. 2 day, 36 hole medal competition open to all ladies with a competition handicap Club Champion is the Lady who has the best combined aggregate gross score over both days The 2014 Club Champion is SUE MITCHELL Name on Honours Board 25 Entries in 2014 Club Champion is entered into SLCGA Inter Club Champions Gold Medal the following Spring. The Le Barn Trophy Is awarded to the lady who has the best combined aggregate net score over both days The 2014 Le Barn Cup holder is Jennie Corfield Divisional Net Prizes Le Barn winner is Entered into the SLCGA Division A or B Spring Knockout

8 Summer Singles Knockout Played over the Summer months Open to all Lady Members with a competition Handicap Match play competition with full handicap allowance Winner receives the Audrey Ingham Cup 2014 Champion Gill Wood Entry into the SLCGA Spring Match play Division A or B Losers in the first round then take part in the Jacqui Cundell plate.

9 Summer Foursomes Knockout Played over the Summer months Open to all Lady members with competition handicap Foursomes Knockout played over 18 holes. Handicap allowance in accordance with CONGU (1/2 combined) Winners receive the Walker Bowl 2014 Champions Victoria Westgarth and Pauline Gibbs Entry into SLCGA Interclub Handicap Foursomes

10 Winter Knockouts Singles Knockout, Match play Winter Doubles Knockout, in 2014, we trialled a 4BBB format These competitions will be subject to review this year. Gifts awarded to Winners and Runners Up Entry into SLCGA Autumn Match Play for Singles winner

11 MEDAL ECLECTIC AND ENGLAND GOLF MEDAL Medal Eclectics are awarded, per division, to the Lady members with the lowest score over any 4 medal rounds Open to all lady members who enter into 4 or more medal rounds Winner from each Division receives Glass Bowl England Golf Medal awarded to the Lady with the lowest aggregate, differential net score over4 medal rounds Entered into the England Golf Medal 2014 Entry is Jennie Corfield

12 ORDER OF MERIT Played over the Summer months For each qualifying competition, the Wednesday and Weekend member scores are combined and ranked. The top ranked player for each qualifier receives 10 points, 10 th ranked player receives 1 point. Order of Merit is awarded to the lady with the highest number of points from their best 12 scores. Winner receives a Claret Jug

15 County teams - 1st and 2nd Regional and National County Championships Inter County matches Juniors Golf playing days for girls with no HCP -girls with HCP 21+ Coaching programmes Junior County Team Ladies Competitions - more later Seniors Inter-county matches; scratch or 4BBB with a mixture of high and low HCPs

16 County Cards Included in annual subscription and purchased by management. Past Captains Society Liaison with England Golf on behalf of Surrey Clubs. Club Delegates Each club has a delegate who attends 4 meetings annually and facilitates communication between individual clubs and the County Association.

17 CLUB COMPETITIONS We play in competitions in RED – Full details will follow in presentations later Hicks Trophy - scratch competition for a team of 5 Centenary Bowl and Plate - scratch competition for team of 5 with HCPs over 10 Derry Cup and Helme Shield - scratch competition for team of 3 players, a maximum of one category 1 player is allowed (HCP 0-5) Druce Trophy - team of 4, 2 bronze and 2 silver players. Medal eclectic HCP competition played over 2 rounds. Held at Windlesham last year. Pearson Trophy- HCP competition with team of 7 with HCPs 13-32. Initially a round robin then a knockout stage.

18 INDIVIDUAL COMPETITONS ALL ladies may enter these competitions, information in the Surrey folder or online. There is still time to enter all of these Spring Meeting - at Guildford this year HCP limit 30 Team of 3 with best 2 scores to count. Summer Foursomes - at Hindhead this year. 27 hole competition HCP limit 30 65+ Autumn meeting - at The Drift this year. HCP limit 36 team of 3 with best 2 scores to count Autumn Meeting - at West Byfleet this year. HCP limit 36 it is 4BBB

19 Knockout Competitions The section enters ladies into these as part of their prize for winning a Windlesham competition. However ALL ladies can enter many of these as individuals. Interclub Champions Gold Medal - Sue M as Club Champion Spring Match Play Div A - knockout for HCP plus-14. Sarah playing this year as winner of the Club Cup Spring Match Play Div B - knockout for HCP 15-30. Gill playing as winner of Summer Singles, Jennie as winner of best net in the Club Championship and Angela R as winner of the Club Cup (silver div). Interclub HCP foursomes - Victoria and Pauline winners of Walker Bowl - summer pairs.

20 Knockout Competitions (cont) Centenary Foursomes Match Play -combined HCP 20-60 60+ Burditt Match Play -HCP limit 36 Stirling Salver Scratch Matchplay County Championship - held over 3 days- 36 holes of stroke play then the 16 best players go through to a two day match play competition,HCP plus-12 Weekend Match Play - HCP limit 30 Seniors Championship - stroke play HCP limit 14 Autumn Match Play –Angela will be entered as the winner of the current winter singles. Victoria B reached the semi-finals of this years competition. Winter Scratch League - Home and Away Match Play HCP 10-16 Rothschild Trophy and Monk Plate - HCP limit 9 Sarah is entered as an individual

21 Centenary Bowl and Plate Presented by Ruth Knowles Centenary Bowl and Plate Captain

22 Centenary Bowl and Plate This is a Surrey team competition playing match-play. Teams of five ladies playing off scratch i.e. no handicaps It takes place in the Summer months starting in March It is a knock-out competition played at home and away with the overall winner going through to the next round. The lowest handicap allowed is 10 There is a plate competition for first round losers so each club plays at least two matches (home and away) The final is played on a Surrey finals day on a neutral course for the prize of the Centenary Bowl or Centenary Bowl plate

23 Hicks Trophy, Derry Cup and Helme Sheild Presented by Angela Riches Derry Cup Captain

24 Hicks Trophy SLCGU competition staged in the Summer months Scratch team Knockout competition, with a team of 5 members. Home and Away matches in each round Preliminary round, to decide who qualifies for the Hicks Trophy or Hicks Plate Windlesham not entering this year, but is reviewed annually

25 Derry Cup and Helme Shield SLCGA Competition held in the Winter months Scratch team Knockout competition, team of 3 ladies Team can comprise of no more than 1 category 1 player or all 3 players can be category 2 or 3 ( Cat 1 = HCP 5 or less, Cat 2 = HCP 6-12, Cat 3 = HCP 13-20) Drawn into groups. Home and Away matches played in each group with group winner progressing to the Derry Cup Knockout and 2 nd placed team qualifying for the Sheild Knockout

26 Pearson Inter County Trophy Presented by Sue Fender 2014/15 Pearson Captain

27 Pearson Inter County Trophy This is an annual competition played by Surrey, Kent, Middlesex and Hertfordshire. An average of 70 clubs compete in Surrey alone! The “round robin” stage for each County is played in groups of 4 or 5 with home and away matches held in the winter months from November to mid- March. The winning teams from the groups go ahead to “knock-out “ matches until there is a winning Golf Club team to represent their County against the other winning County teams. The Final is played in the summer.

28 PEARSON INTER COUNTY TROHY (cont) The competition is open to all players within a 13-32 handicap range inclusive. Each team has 7 players playing singles matchplay with a full handicap difference applied. The main aim of the competition is to encourage players with higher handicaps to compete in singles matchplay. Although quite competitive, matches are normally played in a relaxed and friendly manner and give all teams the opportunity of enjoying other beautiful Surrey golf courses.

29 WINDLESHAM CUP Presented by Sue Mitchell Windlesham Cup Captain and member who set up this competition in 2003/4

30 WINDLESHAM CUP Competition started in 2003/4 for those players unable to compete in the Pearson Matches. Team strokeplay competition for players with a maximum of 14 handicap. Players with a higher handicap can play but must play off 14. Rounds are held at each participating club April / May / June /July/ August/September with a presentation dinner in October. Each club takes their turn in running the event for the year. This year it is Windlesham so the presentation dinner will be held here. There are 6 participating clubs - Windlesham / Chobham / Foxhills / Camberley Heath / West Byfleet / Effingham Two players represent the club at each venue. Different players may play at different venues.

31 Windlesham Cup (cont) The Windlesham Cup is won by the team with the lowest accumulative net score from the 6 competition days. Token prizes are awarded for the lowest gross and net score at each venue. This is paid for by a £15.00 fee paid by all the clubs at the beginning of the season. The whole competition is self funding except for the initial £15.00. There is only one trophy which is held by the winners each year. They also have the responsibility of engraving the trophy. There are no replicas awarded. A bouquet of flowers is presented to the organiser for the year and is paid for by a collection from all participants of the competition. We are now in our 13th year and the competition is still very much enjoyed by everyone.

32 PING WOMEN’S FOUR BALL BETTER BALL PING sponsored competition organised by England Golf, held at WGC in June each year. 18 hole, Four Ball Better Ball competition, ¾ handicap allowance Club winners and runners up will receive a prize from Ping Top 60 Stableford scores in England will qualify for the Grand Final The next 72 best stableford scores will qualify for the Plate Final

33 Australian Spoons England Golf Competition open to women with a handicap of 15-36 18 hole stableford foursomes competition with stoke allowance ½ combined handicaps Qualifying rounds can be played at anytime from 1 Jan – 31 May each year Winning pair will represent WGC in the Regional Final, the winning pair from the Regional Final will qualify for the National Final

34 DAILY MAIL FOURSOMES Daily Mail sponsored competition. Full details on www.mailgolf.co.uk www.mailgolf.co.uk Entry open to all women club golfers with a handicap of 30 and below, Juniors are not eligible 18 hole, stableford foursome competition with stroke allowance ½ combined handicaps determines the WGC winning pair Winning pair enter a regional knockout competition, the final four rounds will be played at Marriott Forest of Arden in October 2015

35 MAIL ON SUNDAY CLASSIC Mail on Sunday sponsored competition, open to all recognised golf clubs in Britain. Team knockout, with a team of 5 ladies. Maximum handicap of 24, Juniors welcome Each match consists of 5 two-balls decided by matchplay. Early rounds on a regional basis Semi-finals and Finals held at an overseas venue 2015 team captained by Gill Wood
