2
It is spoken by almost 500 million people worldwide. Half of the population in the Western Hemisphere speaks Spanish, which means that just as many people speak Spanish as English. Spanish is the 3 rd most widely spoken language in the word. Think of all the people you could communicate with! EXIT PICTURE

Much of the vocabulary in the English language has Latin origins. Since Spanish is also a Latin language, you will find as you study Spanish that you have a better understanding of your native vocabulary. Similarly, both English and Spanish share Indo-European roots, so their grammars are similar. Studying Spanish forces you to think about how your own language is structured. EXIT

Not all that many years ago, the Spanish-speaking population of the United States was confined to the Mexican Border States, Florida, and New York City. Not anymore. Even where we live, it is common to see people speaking Spanish in stores and around town. There are over 6,000 Spanish speakers in Green Bay alone. How awesome would it be to carry on a conversation in Spanish with these people? EXIT
6
Although it is possible to travel to many Spanish speaking countries and not speak a word of Spanish, it isn’t half the fun. If you want to travel someday, many doors will be open to you simply because you are able to speak the language, which allows you to do and see many things that other visitors do not. If you learn Spanish, you will be well on your way to learning other Latin-based languages such as French and Italian. It will also help you to learn languages such as Russian and German, since they too have Indo-European roots and some characteristics that are present in Spanish but not in English. EXIT
13
Taking a foreign language is something that you will emphasize on a college application, and it can also help you to meet college language requirements. In the workforce, knowing Spanish will also help you to go far. Spanish speakers are needed in the fields of medicine and education. Spanish is also helpful in business, communications, tourism, and virtually any field you can think of. EXIT
14
Taking Spanish is a new experience that will expose you to the food, the music, the celebrations, and other aspects of Spanish- speaking cultures. Imagine the first time you have a conversation in Spanish with a native speaker! That alone is enough to keep you wanting to learn the language. Although learning a language can be work, the efforts pay off quickly when you finally get to use your skills. EXIT
