2 Objectives Students will identify nouns Students will write sentences and identify nouns in them.

3 One Minute Warm Up Read the sentence below. What words name persons, places, or things? Finally the lights dim, a drum rolls, and the band launches into a lively tune. -from Big-Top Circus, by Neil Johnson

4 What is a noun? A word that names a person, place or thing is called a noun. PersonMy cousin and his friends are excited. PlaceThey’re going to the circus. It’s in town. ThingThey saved their money for the tickets.

5 Try it Out! One noun is underlined in each sentence. Find the other noun. 1. The clowns have funny noses. 2. Their hats and shoes are floppy. 3. Trained elephants do tricks. 4. Their long trunks spray water. 5. The lions and tigers are scary. 6. A young girl ride on a pony. 7. The people always love the circus.

6 Take out a sheet of notebook paper. Number it from one to ten. Seatwork time!

7 On Your Own This poem has ten nouns. Write the ten nouns on your sheet of paper. An Airplane Ride The airplane flies high in the sky. The streets and towns are tiny. Fields like patchwork quilts go by. Rivers and lakes are shiny. Could that be a truck down there? It looks so small from up in the air!
