1 Impresionism and Post- Impressionism Vocabulary 1.Landscape- a painting or drawing of the land or a natural environment 2.En Plein Air- French for “in the open air.” Sketching or painting outdoors, as opposed to in a studio 3.Still life- a painting or drawing of flowers, fruit, or other assorted objects 4.Portrait- a picture of a person 5.Tight brush stroke- when the brushstrokes on a painting are not visible, giving the art a polished look 6.Loose brush stroke- when specific strokes from a brush are visible on a painting

2 Why learn about Impressionism? We will… see how master artists have painted. learn what you should be striving for in your plein-air oil pastels (the next unit.) learn how to “read” art and talk about it. Use this information when putting together your 2 nd art history book.
