2. Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? Jr. Martin, Bill. & Eric Carle. Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?. Henry Holt and Company, 1967. This is a short children’s book that introduces rhythm within text and helps brings colors alive. I would use this book as an example of how often students have seen poetry throughout their time at school. This book is a low level book with many vibrant pictures. This book will be used to help make connections of what poetry can look like. This book would be used for low readers

3. Oh, The Places You’ll Go Dr. Seuss. Oh,The Places You’ll Go. Random House, 1990. Dr. Seuss wrote many types of rhyming books with many pictures and characters. Students all read Dr. Seuss at some point either with their parents or in school. This book will just act as another connection students can make about poetry, where they have seen, and how it can be written. This book is about all the places the characters can go and it is again a children’s book but is on an independent reading level.

4. Swimming Upstream: Middle School Poems Kristine O’Connell George. Swimming Upstream: Middle School Poems. Weekly, 2005. This book is relatable for the students because it is on their reading level about things that happen to kids their ages. This book has different verse kinds within the poems and it has poems that range from humorous to angst-ridden. Students can relate to some of the poems in here and use them as a guide to help them feel more comfortable to write personally poetry. This is an independent reading level book.

5. What My Mother Doesn’t Know Sonya Scones. What My Mother Doesn’t Know. Simon & Schuster, 2001. This book is about the experience the angst of being a boy- crazy teen. This book is filled with free verse poems which would allow students to have more of their own voice and freedom when they are asked to write their own poems. This book is also relate able to students because what kid doesn’t have a small secret from their parents especially at the middle school age.

6. All Poetry All Poetry. Retrieved from http://allpoetry.com/http://allpoetry.com/ This website has poetry from many artists. This could be used a poet’s research assignment or it could be used to study the different types of poetry forms different poets use. This website is very user friendly and will help students have some freedom in what they learn more about within this poetry unit. For high and independent readers.

7. Poetry Magazine Poetry Foundation. Poetry Magazine. 1912. Retrieved from http://www.poetryfoundation.org/browse/#subject=88 http://www.poetryfoundation.org/browse/#subject=88 Poetry Foundation is the publisher of Poetry Magazine and its online website has poems and poets, resources, and the magazine. This also could be used a poet’s research assignment or it could be used to study the different types of poetry forms different poets use. This website provides pictures and is user friendly as well and the magazine is a new view of the class can research poetry through. This would be for middle and indepedent reading levels.

8. American Poets Magazine American Poets Magazine. Retrieved from http://www.poets.org/http://www.poets.org/ This is another online poetry magazine and website but it isn’t focused on famous poets. This website is a website like people can look at other ordinary people’s poetry that they have written and you can put your own on the website. This will expose students to multiple different forms of poetry and possibly relatable poet because it is work of ordinary people. This will be for higher reading leveled students to read.
