Edgar Allan Poe was born on January 19 th,1809 in Boston, Massecheustus. Then at one years old his parents separate and mother Elizabeth Poe dies. Mr. and Mrs. Allan adopt Edgar. They then place him in a school in England, at 11 years old he returns to the United States and continues his schooling. At 17 years of age he attends the University Of Virginia. Edgar drops out of college because John Allan wont give him any of the fortune he received from his uncles death. He writes his first book “Tamerlane and Other Poems.” Then he cant support himself so he joins the Army.

Poe earns the role of Sergeant Major. His foster mother passes away so he returns home. He and his foster father sort out their differences and John Allan supports his son as he applies to West Point. West Point deliberately kicks Edgar out and he returns home again. John Allan dies and leaves Edgar nothing in his will. Edgar wins a poetry contest and receives a job as a poet. From that point he publishes great poems and becomes famous.

I think that Edgar Allan Poe died of Brain Lesions. There is many doctors that stated Poe probably had Brain Lesions from a Brain Fever. Doctors that supported this theory were Dr. Valentine Mott and Dr. T.O. Mabbot. I agree with these doctors that Poe suffered from Brain Lesions.

My favorite story by Poe is The Raven. The Raven is Poe’s most famous story. I like the way he uses suspense in The Raven. He keeps the suspense going throughout the story with Mysterious knocks on doors. Also, tapping on windows. Another way he keeps the suspense going is the raven saying “Nevermore.”

I think The Raven is the most popular poem of all time. I believe that The Raven is the masterpiece of all of Poe’s stories. The Raven is appreciated by everyone around the world. The Baltimore Ravens even named their team after Poe’s poem.

He is like the father of a modern day horror story because all of his stories influenced horror stories today. I really enjoyed his stories. He made his stories suspenseful and their were very well written. He had so many different ways of making the mood in the story suspenseful. I really believe that Poe influenced every poet today.
