Texas A&M University

 Freshman at Texas A&M University  Major in Civil Engineering  Hometown: Hutto, Texas  Most importantly, I am the loudest and proudest member of the Fightin’ Texas Aggie class of 2015!!!!

 Time to make choices in your lives.  Everyone has a place. One merely has to go out and look for the university that best suits them.  The top 5 things 9 th graders need to start investigating:  Fields of interest / study  College Choices  Financial Support  Future Job (What do you want to do in life?)  SUCCESS!!!

 Civil Engineering at Texas A&M gives you EVERYTHING!  Major: Has one of the top Civil Engineering programs in the nation. *  College: Texas A&M has awesome and amazing traditions. Everyone feels like they belong.  Financial Support: Multiple scholarships are available, but you have to look for them.  Future Jobs: Engineers average higher than normal starting salaries. **  SUCCESS: Texas A&M’s mission is for their civil engineering graduates to become leaders in their profession. *** * http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-colleges/rankings/engineering-doctorate-civilhttp://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-colleges/rankings/engineering-doctorate-civil ** http://www.universitylanguage.com/blog/07/college-graduate-salaries-by-field-and-major/http://www.universitylanguage.com/blog/07/college-graduate-salaries-by-field-and-major/ *** http://catalog.tamu.edu/09-10_UG_Catalog/look_engineering/civil_eng.htmhttp://catalog.tamu.edu/09-10_UG_Catalog/look_engineering/civil_eng.htm

I have parents who are Texas A&M graduates both with engineering degrees. My parents took me to see football games, Silver Taps, Aggie Muster…etc. These events allowed me to experience the atmosphere and traditions at Texas A&M. As a result, I knew that Texas A&M University was for me. Reveille: Texas A&M’s mascot.

Does anyone know?

Civil engineers plan, design, supervise the construction, operate, maintain, inspect, retrofit, and manage many of the facilities and systems in both public and private sectors that are essential to modern life. * * Source: http://catalog.tamu.edu/09-10_UG_Catalog/look_engineering/civil_eng.htm

 My grandfather, a former Civil Engineering professor and graduate from Texas A&M, introduced me to this field of study.  The simple things engineers design to make the quality of life more efficient intrigued me at an early age.

 Flushing of a toilet  Getting hot and cold water out of the faucet  Deciding which dirt to serve as the base of a structure.

 Civil Engineers strive to make everybody’s life more efficient.  Civil Engineers play an important role in today’s society.  Civil Engineers make a huge difference in the world.

 Competition: Proposed Hands on Activity  Everyone group into pairs of four.  Objective:  Design a tower out of only toothpicks and marsh mellows. The tallest tower that can stand ON ITS OWN for thirty seconds wins. Time: 5 minutes to build the tower

 Winner  Receives ?????????

 Excellent starting salary following graduation.  Jobs are always available and in demand.  Data from 2011 indicates that a 24.3% spike is ahead in jobs for people who design roads, bridges, and other infrastructure projects. The projected annual salary was $77,560.* * Source: http://finance.yahoo.com/news/10-hot-careers-for-2012----and-beyond.html?mod=pf-series-a-articlehttp://finance.yahoo.com/news/10-hot-careers-for-2012----and-beyond.html?mod=pf-series-a-article
