Advertising task 1 Listen to Alice, Tim and Helen having a discussion Listen to Alice, Tim and Helen – (If it doesn’t work, try downloading the MP3)downloading the MP3 What are they doing? Show the text and play the conversation again Show the text Would you like to live in their apartment? Read the language point Try the quiz

Controversy in advertising This 2008 story is about Nicolas Sarkozy and Ryanair Do some quick internet research, to find out – Who Nicolas Sarkozy is – What Ryanair is What, then, does “Sarkozy vs. Ryanair” mean? – (“vs.” means against) Go herehere Look at the picture Listen to the story (without reading) Listen again, reading as you listen Study the vocabulary Guess: Who won the case? By an internet search, check who really won.

4. Product placement (2007) Product placement is a kind of “hidden” advertising – It is used in movies and TV programs Can you explain what it is? Go herehere Listen only Listen and read; study vocab Find a more recent news story about product placement (in the UK)

5. Reuters news: preposition practice Click herehere Login – Username: anonymous – No password is needed Select “prepositions” Search Reuters news – Advertising? Taiwan? Whatever you like… Choose the most interesting news story Click “Fill-in-the-blanks”
