1 WELCOME PARENTS AND STUDENTS TO FOURTH GRADE! -Students - Please find your seat -Do not unpack your backpack or any supplies -Your backpack can stay here at school tonight -You may look through the books and papers on your desk -We will take care of all your supplies tomorrow! -Parents, I plan to give you time to fill out paperwork and ask questions in a few minutes -Please get all paperwork back to me ASAP – Today or tomorrow would be great!

4 Math Curriculum Everyday Math program --spiraling curriculum Study Links daily Fact Fluency—in class practice, as well as at home practice Addition and Subtraction facts are expected to be automatic at 4 th Grade Fourth grade fact fluency goals: 20 facts per minute, multiplication fact secured by winter break, division facts secured by the end of the year

8 Student Responsibilities Try your best! -high expectations -be thorough on all assignments and tests Be prepared! -bring shoes for Phy.Ed. and/or instrument for strings -don’t forget homework! Make good choices!

9 Homework Expectations 30-40 mins. daily; including reading, fact practice, Study Links Work should be done neatly and accurately Use take home folder and assignment notebook Students should complete homework independently, unless assistance is needed Recess or after school times may be used for late assignments No Homework on weekends! (most of the time)

10 School Success Program School-wide:Above the Line/ Below the Line Focus on Good Citizenship: Respect, Responsibility, Trustworthiness, Caring Fix It Plans We are what we choose to be! Focus on the positives!

11 Communication Assignment notebook and take-home folders daily Assignment notebooks should be signed by another student showing that they filled everything out – and – signed by an adult at home when they have completed all homework - - - If your child does not finish all the homework, please do not sign that day – just write me a note telling me what was not finished. Coming to school with a signed assignment notebook is part of my homework grade for each student. See our web page often! 12 End of the Year Awards Excellence Award Criteria: consistant high quality work 3+ or above on report card met or exceeded the District MAP status target for all 3 subject areas Achievement Award Criteria: improved on report card throughout the year (academically, behaviorally, effort – all 3) met 2 out of 3 MAP growth targets.

13 Miscellaneous School Information: School Hours: 7:40am to 2:35pm Students should not be to school before 7:20 a.m., as there is no supervision until then. Early Dismissal Days: 7:40am to 10:35 a.m. School Phone Numbers: 839-4576 or 221-7679 Absences: Please call school as soon as possible to excuse your child’s absence. If you know you will be on a vacation, there is a Pre- Arranged Absence form in the office to fill out. Let me know if you need one. Book Orders: Due around the 15 th of month -If possible order online -send checks made to “Scholastic” Birthday Treats and Snacks: We are not a “Nut-Free” classroom … but the classroom across the hall is…. 22 students Morning Snack time—order from school or bring from home
