5 Selecting the idea of the Project The idea of the project appeared during brain storming. We heard loudspeakers from a house near the school. We felt nervous and annoyed. The noise problem was selected collaboratively between the students of the environmental project. The problem is related to everyday life and to the curriculum. The question and sub-questions were put.

7 Project idea: Basic question – Sub-question How does noise affect man’s health?  What is noise pollution?  What are the noise sources in Taiz?  What are the noise damages on the nervous system of man?  In your opinion, what are the solutions and suggestions to reduce noise pollution?

11 Research and Investigations (1) How information was collected:  We searched in references “books, magazines, websites”  We read relevant studies about noise.  We conducted field surveys and monitored the level of noise pollution.  We compared the level of noise pollution in two streets.  We distributed questionnaires and conducted online surveys.  We conducted interviews and field visits.

12 Research and Investigations (2)  We disseminated awareness of noise problem through the morning programme.  We designed a mind map of the project.  We used computer programs (Excel, Visio, Movie maker, Survey monkey)  We collected, summarized and analyzed data.  We wrote research sources “books, magazines, websites”  We output, evaluated and presented the project.

19 Research Results (1) The research results focused on the following:  Feeling the problem of noise pollution.  The ever-increasing of noise in Taiz city.  The multiplicity of noise sources, in the fore-front, cars and motorbikes.  The impact of noise on human health and society.  Environmental unawareness is a reason of noise increase.  There is no law to prevent noise in Yemen.

21 (3) Interviews Results The interview with the Director of the Traffic:  Implementing the resolution issued by the Council of Ministers on the numbering of motorcycles.  Taking action against violators. The interviews with the doctors and the teacher:  Isolating workshops and motorcycles outside the city.  The officials must carry the responsibility towards the problem.  Disseminating environmental awareness.

23 Lessons Learned  We learned new information and knowledge about noise pollution  We acquired skills in using computer and internet.  We developed skills in putting questions, planning and evaluating.  We designed presentations using different programs “Power point, Word, Movie maker, Publisher”.  We developed new skills in solving problems, self confidence and to carry the responsibility.  We developed our skills of communication, collaborative work and self-guidance.

24 Recommendations  Disseminating environmental awareness in the society.  Teaching environment law and safety in schools and universities.  Developing scientific skills to contribute to the protection of the environment.  Taking measures against persons who cause noise.  Environmental awareness to change the narrow view towards the environment.

25 Conclusion  The introduction and preparation phase was fulfilled.  The project topic was selected.  The objectives and project plan were set.  We made the necessary investigations during the search process.  We reached to concrete and realistic results of the problem.  We put some solutions and suggestions to reduce this problem.  Views and recommendations.

26 What’s your role in the change?  Everyone of us is exposed to noise during his or her daily life.  Some of us are affected by it and others ignore it.  But only a few people tried to reduce this problem.  How about you?
