4 PYTHAGOREAN THEOREM: In a right triangle, the square of the length of the hypotenuse is equal to the sum of the square of lengths of the legs.

11 COMMON PYTHAGOREAN TRIPLES AND SOME OF THEIR MULTIPLES The most common Pythagorean triples are in bold. The other triples are the result of multiplying each integer in a bold face by the same factor.

12 PRACTICE: The given lengths are two sides of a right triangle. All three side lengths of the triangle are integers and together form a Pythagorean triple. Find the length of the third side and tell whether it is a leg or a hypotenuse.
