1 Vacuum Control-Command for AdV The PLC choice: several companies have been met Crouzet Wago Panasonic ABB: no answer Siemens: OK a priori but not tested Schneider Bekhoff Not powerful enough } } Extensively tested with all available controllers currently used in Virgo

2 Results for Schneider M340 PLC All controllers OK except Midivac (it uses RS485 with 4 wires while Schneider modules is a 2 wires RS485) and MultiGauge (not currently used in Virgo) Some controllers OK using HMS anybus Modbus/Serial Link bridge For tubes stations, RS232 port are not isolated  need to use Entrelec convertors as for OS9 Works properly with convertors except for Midivac while the convertors deals with 4-wire RS485 Module for serial ports host one RS232 and one RS485 port  multiplication of modules  risk of overcrowded crate or need to put RS232/RS485 convertor  cost increase Estimated cost for PLC components for one UHV station: ~7000 €

3 Results for Bekhoff CX1020 PLC All controllers OK with direct serial link except MultiGauge (not currently used in Virgo) Most of controllers OK using HMS anybus Modbus/Serial Link bridge For tubes stations, RS232 and RS485 modules are correctly isolated Dedicated modules for RS232 or RS485 (2 ports each)  less modules needed compared to Schneider Software is less convenient than Schneider one (one application for configuration and one for programming) but remains manageable Estimated cost for PLC components for one UHV station: ~5000 € Bekhoff is our preferred solution for Vacuum CC

4 Questions/Remarks for Cryotrap control If possible (for maintenance and spare issues), the PLC should be the same everywhere in AdV Cryotrap station is as large as an UHV station Should the cryogenics and vacuum control be running in the same PLC ? If not, should the two PLC be in the same station ? Which supervision (if any) will be used for NIHKEF tests ? Tango is the preferred solution for LAL team. In the single station case, NIHKEF and LAL groups have to deeply interact. Who is the project manager ?
