Community Anchor Institutions Connecting to the Network
17
Some Useful Definitions: Open Access Network : In an OAN, the owner (e.g. viNGN) does not supply services; these are supplied by separate retail internet service providers (ISPs). Internet Service Provider (ISP): A business providing its customers with connection to the internet and other related services. Community Anchor Institution (CAI): Schools, libraries, medical and healthcare providers, public safety entities, community colleges and other institutions of higher education, and other community support organizations and entities.

viNGN Future Business Plans

viNGN Sales @ A Glance The viNGN fiber optic network will be an open-access, middle-mile wholesale bandwidth provider. viNGN will sell bandwidth only through an ISP. viNGN will not sell direct to any end user (e.g. businesses, agencies, residences, etc); those are all the customers of the ISP’s. The ISP’s are the customers of viNGN. The viNGN network is designed to provide fiber all the way to the Community Anchor Institutions (CAI’s), and Public Computer Centers (PCC’s) on our Network. However, service over those fibers will be provided only by their chosen ISP’s.
28
viNGN Sales @ A Glance Many CAI’s in the continental USA transition to a minimum of 1 Gigabit service when it is available. This will be available on our network. Our CAI’s, like those in other communities, serve as the backbone of our Territory. Upgrading their bandwidth leads to overall improvement in bandwidth sustainability and usage that the Federal Government is seeking. A healthy community depends on strong CAI’s to provide jobs, purchase local goods and services, and support its health, education and social needs. To do that in the 21 st Century requires sufficient bandwidth.
29
viNGN Sales @ A Glance Representatives of CAI’s and other interested parties today have an opportunity, through your ISP, to connect to our new fiber optic network and upgrade your level of bandwidth at your specific location, and do your jobs better, more efficiently, and bring even greater value and services to this community -“Connecting The V.I. To The World…” Information regarding our rates and services will be available shortly. We are then ready to meet with ISP’s interested in purchasing bandwidth from viNGN to significantly increase the bandwidth speeds of the U.S. Virgin Islands and stimulate future growth of our Territory. viNGN is here to serve the U.S. Virgin Islands, and we look forward to the opportunity to serve each and every one of you here today.

CAI & ISP Bandwidth Measurement - BroadMap SBI Grant Vendor Info Under the BTOP SBI grant viNGN has contracted with BroadMap to collect information about the broadband internet service currently available at your location as a CAI and also from all ISP’s. This information is being collected by the National Telecommunications and Information Administration to show where the nation’s broadband internet services are located, and what speed and type of service is being used. BroadMap has created an online portal to help you safely and securely submit your broadband internet service information. Please go to https://usvi.broadmap.com/caiportalUSVI/, pick your institution from the list and log in. Once you are logged in, you will be guided through the information collection process. https://usvi.broadmap.com/caiportalUSVI/ If you experience any technical difficulties contact BroadMap (Monday – Friday between the hours of 9 am and 5 pm Eastern Time) at (866) 928-5750 or email support@broadmap.com. Should you require, further direction with regards to using the site, we have scheduled a series of online webinars to walk through this process, show you how the portal works, and answer any questions you may have at that time. You will be contacted under separate cover providing you with dial-in information and links to the online webinars. support@broadmap.com
