Prepared by UFVRD RCMP Criminal Intelligence Analyst C/M Jenna EVANS 2013-12-18 All Criminal Code Violations Although Chilliwack saw decreases in its overall Criminal Code Violations crime rate from 2007 to 2010, the overall total criminal code crime rate began to increase in 2011, and continued its increase in 2012. Of the 9 communities analyzed, Chilliwack was the only one which experienced an increase in 2011. In 2012, Chilliwack, Burnaby, Richmond, and Langley all experienced increases.

In 2008 Chilliwack’s violent crime rate dropped by 5.92%, in 2009 it increased by 11.97%, in 2010 it dropped by 12.95%, in 2011 it increased by 4.87% and in 2012 it dropped by 4.13%. None of the other areas analyzed experienced this ping pong effect in terms of their violent crime rate changes.

Prepared by UFVRD RCMP Criminal Intelligence Analyst C/M Jenna EVANS 2013-12-18 Property Crime Chilliwack experienced steady decreases in its property crime rate after UFVRD implemented it’s crime reduction strategies in Chilliwack in late 2008. In 2008 it dropped by 7.53%, in 2009 it dropped by 17.84%, in 2010 it dropped by 9.71%, and in 2011 it dropped by 11.27%. In 2012 we began to see the property crime rate increase, which was also the case in Vancouver, Burnaby, Surrey, Richmond, and Langley.

In 2011, Chilliwack along with Abbotsford, Vancouver, Burnaby, North Vancouver, and Richmond, all experienced increases in their other criminal code violations rate. In 2012 all other areas analyzed experienced decreases except for Langley.

Methodology Crime data was extracted from the CCJS database on 2013-12-12 and includes incident-based crime statistics from 2007 to 2012, broken down by detailed violations and police services 9 locations selected as per Insp. Grant Wilson: Chilliwack, Abbotsford, Vancouver, Burnaby, Surrey, North Vancouver, Richmond, Langley, Kamloops Crime rate calculated per 1000 population Population data extracted from Police Services Data Socio economic data as sourced in slides.
