For What Shall We Hope?

Does the Bible Speak of Two Different Hopes for Two Different Groups? Three basic Scriptures are used to support the claim that God offers TWO different hopes to two different groups. –Revelation 7:1-17 Numbers are used symbolically 144,000 number on earth at that time Later, part of a “great multitude that could not be numbered.”

Materialists are wrong—they reverse places and positions! –144,000 are on earth—not in heaven. (vs.3) –The great multitude is in heaven—not on earth. (vs.9) –They serve in the temple (in heaven) (vs.15) –The sun shall not strike the multitude (this rules out the earth) (vs.16) –If we take the passage literally, all would be Jews; taken from the 12 tribes (vs.4-8) Does the Bible Speak of Two Different Hopes for Two Different Groups?

Three basic Scriptures are used to support the claim that God offers TWO different hopes to two different groups. –Revelation 14:1-5. If we take the passage literally… All would be males (vs.4) All would be celibate (virgins) (vs.4) All would be Jews (7:4-8) Does the Bible Speak of Two Different Hopes for Two Different Groups?

Since the great multitude will not go to heaven, they do not need the same justification as the 144,000. Just undergo a change from the human to spiritual. Only 144,000 will gain immortality as the bride of Christ. –Most important to God; like Jesus, they sacrifice their right to life on earth. –Will serve with Christ as kings and priests. –These alone need baptism. –These alone partake of the Lord’s Supper. –They receive a special feeling of assurance that they are of the chosen. Two Hopes Would Limit Christ’s Atonement to Only a Few.
