What is a Health Administrator? Health Administrators plan, direct, coordinate, and supervise the delivery of health care. Health Administrators are also sometimes referred to as health care executives or health care managers.

What do Health Administrators do? In health care, Health Administrators manage: integration of health care systems technological innovations complex regulatory and management environments restructuring of the workplace health care quality improvement more efficient and cost effective care delivery

Hospitals, clinics and outpatient departments Physician group practices Nursing homes and rehabilitation facilities Home health and home care agencies Health Insurance companies Universities and research institutions Public health departments and other state and federal health agencies

Job Growth for Health Administrators The demand for health care is expanding: Baby boomers are aging and living longer. 32 million Americans who were uninsured will become insured and seek health services under national health reform. Health care is becoming increasingly complex and in need of well educated, competent managers.

Where Health Administrators work now Medical and health services managers held about 283,000 jobs in 2008. 38% worked in hospitals 19% worked in physician offices or in residential care facilities. Others in home care, outpatient clinics, insurance companies, community facilities for the elderly. (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2010-2011)

Job Growth for Health Administrators Employment for medical and health services managers is expected to grow 16 percent in the next 10 years, adding at least 45,000 new jobs. (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2010-2011) National health reform is expected to increase significantly the number of Health Administrators that are needed.

Salaries for Health Administrators Median annual wages in May 2008 were: Hospitals - $87,040 Outpatient departments/clinics - $74,130 Offices of physicians - $74,060 Home health care services - $71,450 Nursing care facilities- $71,190 (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2010-2011)

Salaries of Health Administrators in Physician Group Practices $82,423 in practices with 6 or fewer physicians $105,710 in practices with 7 to 25 physicians $119,000 in practices with 26 or more physicians. (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2010-2011)

Regis College Program Full and part-time options available. Full-time program can be completed in 16 months while student works full- time. Full-time program: classes held on a weekend day every other weekend and on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Full-time program: $10,000 scholarship available for Spring 2013 class.

Regis College Program Total of 14 courses, 42 credits. 12 required courses and 2 electives. Field experience requirement in last semester of 100 hours. Student may elect to also earn a Certificate in Gerontology, Health Informatics, or Health Policy (under development).
