Symbolism—Pinterest Directions Objective: Students will identify five (5) images that represent important symbols in Romeo and Juliet and explain each symbol’s importance to a selected focus character from the play. Focus Character’s Name ________________________________ Directions: Step 1: Use these five (5) symbols from the play to focus your project. Symbol 1: Mask Symbol 2: Rose Symbol 3: Potion Symbol 4: Thumb Biting Symbol 5: Light Step 2: Find an image online to represent each of your symbols. Step 3: Insert your selected symbol images in the five provided ‘pin’ boxes on the Pinterest template. Step 4: In the comment section of each ‘pin’ box, write 2-3 sentences explaining the importance of the symbol to your selected focus character. Don’t forget to— Insert your focus character’s name in the top-right corner of the page. Title your Pinterest Board. Organize your pins neatly. Write your comments in complete sentences.

Search Symbols in A Lesson Before Dying Grant Wiggins The fried chicken and food Miss Emma brings to Jefferson is a symbol of her love for him. It represents her idea of hospitality and the means to show someone she cares. Move Pins Edit Board 5 Pins 2 Followers The eclectic chair is a symbol of injustice in the novel. It represents the fear white racists instill in the black community through its threatening purpose. The school house represents Grant’s subconscious hope for making a difference in his community. He hopes his teaching encourages the adolescent members of the community to make something more of themselves. The notebook represents Jefferson’s release and reconnection with his humanity. It also foreshadows tolerance and acceptance between whites and blacks when Paul delivers the journal to Grant. The radio represents Grant’s first act as a dedicated mentor to Jefferson.
