3 Please choose a topic to look at first: Codes and Conventions Special Effects Iconography

4 Codes and Conventions used in “sight” Home -Good vs. Evil, good being the female character and evil being the sight systems program developer -Often set in the future, and have heavy reference to modern technology. -Have mechanically enhanced humans with some kind of chip/body upgrade. -Virtual worlds, which is looked at a lot with “Sight” because of the integration of digital parts of the world. -Development of new technology i.e. the sight system. -Special Effects used in the edit, which is again clearly used in “Sight”, with the exception of the opening shot of the blank room. -Hackers are commonly shown in sci-fi films, in the case of “Sight” the developer has the access to the hack. 5 Codes and Conventions used in Sci-Fi in general Home -Alien worlds and technology -Aliens attacking the world and posing a threat to the human race -Space exploration and discovery -Film set in another location other than earth -Set in future -Technology far beyond present day -Robots -Spaceships -Time Travel Page back

6 Special Effects used in “sight” Home -The Special effects in “Sight” are immediately introduced as the camera pans over the male villain, we see him skydiving virtually while simply lying on a mat. -CGI used to create the overlay of “sight” for example when the male villain goes to look in the fridge, it gives him an bio on the contents of the fridge or when he his looking around his room and he sees the virtual objects around him. -Special effects are also used to create the titles at the start of the film when the villain is lying down we see the titles “Sight appear seamlessly into the scene, this was not done like traditional films where titles are layered over the top but instead integrated into the shot. 7 Special Effects used in Sci-FI in General Home -Bullet time, which is commonly seen in films such as “The Matrix”, where the action is slowed down to see all of the small details like bullets flying around in slow-motion -Robots, being able to simulate there actions and movement, used in films like “Terminator” and “I-Robot”, to create this effect film makers use MoCap(motion capture) to create lifelike movement but with the addition of CGI. -Also in very recent technology the use of 3d Printers to give the life like models for example in iron man 2, the glove was created using a 3d printer. 8 Iconography used in “sight” Home Next Page -Futuristic environment -White rooms, sterile, no “soft” furnishings, blue white light, straight lines, minimalist -Futuristic Graphics -High tech -Initially innocuous gaming console type graphics -Uses game/scoring to slice vegetables, dating girl, keeping score -“Alien” or non-human characteristics -Inhuman tendencies -manipulating minds and posing a threat to normalcy, system crashing when out running, gets lost, mind control -Eyes that flicker, reflecting graphics, cold, stare, lifeless -Mind control -By hacking her “system” he can control her -Dystopian future -Concern for society, scoring people, cutting veg -Ideology - is it real or is everything reduced to a gameAdvanced inhuman technology -4D gaming, integral scoring to sight, analysing fridge contents, recreating works of art on blank walls. -Set in future -Apparently set in future but with echoes of today, dating websites and profiles, running apps, -Technology far beyond present day -Robotic characteristics -no emotions, automatons, gauche, unable to think for themselves, needing prompts from central “being”
