ECE 445 Resources 1.Website and Wiki 2.Lab (246 Everitt) 1.Equipment 2.Hardware 3.Software 3.Ordering Parts 4.Ordering a PCB 5.People 6.Entrepreneurial

Website Lots of information and resources. Look for tutorials, trouble shooting. tips, links to design and reference books, websites etc Past projects Online Wiki

Located in 246 Everitt Lab. For room access use your I-Card. Combination of capabilities of all the other teaching labs. Locked storage space for each team. Senior Design Lab

Portable Lab Kit Wiring board for circuit prototyping Pre-cut wire kit Multiple output power supply Digital multimeter 8 cables ( 2 bnc/bnc, 2 bnc/pin, 2 banana/banana, 2 banana/pin) Do not store cables for lab in your kit! Must be returned undamaged at end of Semester! Missing Kits result in withheld diploma and $500.00 fine. Lock your lockers!

Test Equipment Oscilloscopes up to 500 MHz. Power supplies Logic state analyzers Network analyzers Frequency spectrum analyzers Voltmeters, ammeters, ohmmeters etc. Most is connected to PC’s via HPIB cables

Computers Access and storage is the same as any computer on the ECE domain. Pentium 4, 512 MB RAM Networked to high-capacity laser printer HPIB connection to standard instruments Sound card Maintained by OICS in 323 EL Several useful programs, look online for complete list.

Hardware Resources Look online for a current inventory! Can check out from your TA. Microcontrollers DSP Boards LINX RF transmitters and receivers GPS units Webcams Etc..

Software Resources Look online for a complete list: – Microscoft Office – OrCAD – Agilent VEE 7.0 – XILINX Alliance 3.1 (FPGA’s) – LabVIEW – NI-DAQ – MATLAB – Etc…

Ordering Parts Each team has ~$40 for parts and resources Since there is no required textbook you can buy small parts yourself to save time and hassle Several Options: – ECE parts shop- Always check here first! – ECE Stores – My.ece – Business office – Local Stores

ECE Parts shop 265 EL (2 nd floor) Catalog available online Fill out a request form at the parts shop and they should be available within a few hours For parts not in the catalog you will need an instructor. Major parts must be returned at the end of the semester For large unusual parts inquire in person.

There is a large collection of IC Data books in the shop – Ask an attendant for assistance – Data books are not allowed out of the shop – A copier is provided for copying information

Don’t worry! Just fill out a ‘Red Tag’ and place on the equipment not working – ‘Red Tags’ are available in the Electronics Shop – Please be specific about the nature of the problem – Leave the equipment in the lab the labs are checked daily for red-tagged items

ECE Stores 60 EL (Basement) Catalog is online Need permission of TA Forms available at TA desk or at the store Can also charge the part to your student ID.

My.ece For items not available at the shop or store. Discuss with your TA beforehand. Requests must be approved by your TA. Deliveries from companies vary from 2-7 days Orders from Digi-key are grouped together and placed Wednesdays and Fridays Have orders in by 12pm Wednesday and 3pm Friday.

Other Options Free Samples from companies Local stores: Radio Shack, etc. Mail-order Must have prior approval from your TA for reimbursements. Keep the original copy of your itemized store receipt or invoice.

Ordering a PCB Parts shop – Information available online. – can make simple PCBs (upto 2 layers) – no cost to you – User Eagle to layout – typically 1 week turnaround Commercial Quality Boards: – Use Eagle or Orcad Layout to design board – AP circuits (2 layer boards for under $50) – pcbFABExpress (very cheap, 5 day turn time) Getting the PCB order in on time is YOUR responsibility so keep track of deadlines!
