2 KMUTT: S. Srakaew CPE 221 Introduction Passive devices Resistor Voltage-current relation: V = R I, v(t) = R i(t) Inductor Capacitor Voltage-current relation: v(t) = L di(t)/dt Voltage-current relation: i(t) = C dv(t)/dt

5 KMUTT: S. Srakaew CPE 221 Introduction Basic circuit analysis KCL Summation of currents flow in to (or out from) a node is zero KVL Summation of voltages across all elements in a mesh is zero Norton and Thevenin equivalent circuits A two-terminal network can be represented as a current source connected in parallel with Norton’s equivalent resistance (or a voltage source connected in series with Thevenin’s equivalent resistance)

6 KMUTT: S. Srakaew CPE 221 Introduction Example: Use KCL to find all node voltages V1V1 V2V2 V3V3 SN 1,2&3:5 - V 1 /25 - V 2 /20 - V 3 /40 = 0 Voltage source 60V:V 1 - V 2 = -60 Voltage source 100V:V 1 - V 3 = 100 V 2 = V 1 + 60 V 3 = V 1 - 100 8V 1 + 10V 2 + 5V 3 = 1000 Therefore, 8V 1 + 10(V 1 + 60) + 5(V 1 - 100) = 1000V 1 = ?, V 2 =?, V 3 = ?
