HOMONYMS CONFUSING WORDS THAT SOUND OR LOOK ALIKE

LET’S TAKE A LOOK AT COMMON HOMONYMS -there, their, they’re -its, it’s -whose, who’s -to, two, too

THERE, THEIR, & THEY’RE There -- a noun that means “that place” Their – third person plural possessive adjective, used to describe something as belonging to them They’re – contraction of “they are”, often followed by the present participle(verb ending in –ing) EXAMPLE: They’re going over there to see their puppies.

ITS AND IT’S Its -- possesive pronoun; modifies a noun It’s – contraction of it is EXAMPLE: It’s about time it got its stuff together.

WHOSE AND WHO’S Whose -- the possessive form of who, usually sits before a noun Who’s – a contraction of either who is or who has EXAMPLE: Whose bike was expensive and who’s going to pay for it?

TO, TWO, & TOO To -- a preposition before a noun or an infinitive before a verb Two – used to spell out the number 2 Too – synonym for also or to indicate excessiveness before a verb EXAMPLE: I went to the mall with two of my friends. We bought too many items.
