1
How Can A Person Disobey God? We should not want to disobey God, but we will notice some ways in which we do disobey God.
2
Introduction The bible teaches us in several passages the importance and necessity of obeying God. As God has promised, when one obeys they receive blessings from God (Deuteronomy 28). Failure to obey has a promise of curses and a penalty of continued destruction (Leviticus 26).
3
Obedience Is Required. Ecclesiastes 12:13 Matthew 7:21-28 John 14: 21-23 Romans 6:17-18 Hebrews 5:8-9 And many more could be quoted. Let us notice some ways to disobey God.
4
By Doing What Is Forbidden. Genesis 2:15-17 God commanded them NOT to eat of the tree of knowledge of good and evil Adam and Eve sinned by doing so. We also sin when we do things which God has forbidden in His Bible. And we have many more commandments than Adam and Eve had.
5
By Not Doing What God Commands. John 7:30 James 4:17 When God commands we do something, and we refuse to do it, we sin. Many people refuse to study the Bible because the Bible informs them what the will of God is. And once they learn the will of God they are subject to it (whether they learn it or not).
6
By Adding To God’s Word. Acts 15:1-29 The Judaizers were adding circumcision of the Old covenant to the provisions of the New Covenant as a requirement for salvation. Galatians 5:1-4 Paul’s response to such. 1 Corinthians 4:6 2 John 9 Deuteronomy 4:2
7
By Taking Away From God’s Word. 1 Samuel 15 King Saul did most of what he was commanded, but he left some things out. Deuteronomy 12:32 Revelation 22:19 We must learn how to do ALL the will of God.
8
By Substituting What God Commands. Numbers 20:1-12 Moses struck the rock when he was told to speak to the rock. Leviticus 10:1-2 Strange fire not accepted by God. 1 Kings 12:25-33 Idols are no substitute for God.
9
Conclusion 1 John 3:4 Sin is transgression of the law. 2 John 9 Does not have a relationship with God, thus expelled from glory. Many ways to sin, and the end result will be the same for each sin. Spiritual death, and eternal torment. Only way to avoid hell is to do what God commands.
