3. DEFINITION An embedded system is some combination of computer hardware and software, either fixed in capability or programmable, that is specifically designed for a particular function. It is embedded as part of a complete device often including hardware and mechanical parts.

4. . A embedded system has three main components embedded into it: 1. It embeds hardware similar to a computer. 2. It embeds main application software. 3. It embeds a real-time operating system (RTOS).

5. . Characteristics of embedded system.. 1. Single functioned-The embedded systems perform specific pre-defined task.for example, a digital camera is always a digital camera. 2. Tightly constrained- Low cost, low power, small, fast, etc.

6. 3. Reactive and real time - must reacts to changes in the system’s environment time to time. For examp,the auto focus camcoder continuously monitor screen and adjust their lenses such that screen is viewed with max clarity.
