2 What is this topic??????? Multinational Corporations- companies that are present or functioning in many nations Ex: Coca cola, Facebook, McDonald's Royal Dutch Shell Challenging state authority- creating conflict with in a nation Autonomy- independence or freedom

3 Revolution in Syria Facebook promoting rebellion in Syria
Made a page called the Syrian electronic army Government started to get involved Shut down the Syrian Military’s official page The government demanded that Facebook give the identities of people who were part of the revolution They refused due to security issues it would cause

4 Facebook’s role Started cyber warfare
Used Facebook to draw global attention to the brutal military crack down on protesters Promoted national awareness of revolution Posted videos and information Shared things that Syria didn’t want other people to know about

The authorities planned retribution against Facebook They felt threatened so they begin to take action Taking a Stance- 1.Facebook Banned 2.Monitoring Messages 3.Arresting People 4.Hacked

6 Coca-Cola in India Coca Cola responsible for causing pollution water depletion in Kerala Abuse of water resources Loss of agricultural crops and animals Diseases affecting human beings in surrounding areas

Going against the high power committee- a body set up by the body of Kerala The company denies its wrong doing They question the legitimacy of the high power committee Forced to shut down operations

8 Coca-Cola challenges India
Even though India had banned coca- cola they continued to make new products and sell them Stopped distributing toxic waste only when ordered to do so by the government Must state the levels of pesticides on the product Appealed to this decision Compromise with “commercial confidentiality”
