© 2011 Infotech Enterprises 2 Context Mining companies collect several types of data in various systems at different stages throughout the complete life cycle of mining As operations becoming more complex, managing the information is more difficult Need for technological orientation is necessary for smooth operations Workflow automation will play an important role in any mine operations

© 2011 Infotech Enterprises 3 Current Challenges Geospatial technology: Lack of GIS leads to increased operational complexities Central database: There is a need of a centralised database, accessible across the organisation. Duplicate Data: It is estimated that a large percentage of volume of data is duplicated and needs to be cleansed, classified and migrated Shortage of Remote Sensing Studies: Need of technical expertise with mining knowledge/skill for appropriate interpretation and analysis of post and pre mining activities. Automation: The issue today is not only the lack of right information but the also means to interpret to drive improved decision making and operational performance.

© 2011 Infotech Enterprises 5 General Issues on the data stored One column for many purposes Purpose of a column is derived from many rows Incorrect/ inconsistent data values and formatting Missing and hidden data and columns Multiple sources for the same data Several Primary Key /Foreign Key strategies for the similar entities Unrealized relationships between data records Single aspect is stored in multiple columns Multiple aspects stored in Single column Diverse data types and formats for comparable columns Inconsistent level of detail Varying timeliness of data Varying default values Multiple legends for same attributes

9
© 2011 Infotech Enterprises 9 Advantages and Benefits Consistent and accurate content Reduction of redundant content Lower maintenance efforts Reduced costs Domain knowledge make data categorization easy and affordable Multiple solutions with a single action manager yield easy data classification and extraction This staged approach will benefit the overall process by overcoming the complexities involved in the legacy technical data, allowing for accurately categorised and extracted information. Thus creating the accurate mine 3D models for decision making
