3 WHY OHIO STATE? Today We get to know you You get to learn about Why Ohio State! We receive approximately 1,200 applicants: interview approximately 450 applicants for 162 seats

4 WHY OHIO STATE? What comes next? This year all interviews will be done by end of January Some decisions will be made on a rolling basis Offers will be made by end of February so you can know where you stand as you look at other schools

After the interview We may inform some interviewees (either way) early but no news is good news Make sure you check your email and voicemail If you are offered a seat and we do not receive a confirmation by April 15 we will offer your seat to another applicant. NO applicant is required by any school to commit before April 15, 2015

7 WHY OHIO STATE? Everyone Finds their Place Once the seats are offered there will be a period of musical chairs; there is a wait list! Some applicants will receive offers to multiple schools and so as they withdraw we go to the next on the list PLEASE LET US KNOW EITHER WAY Some years we have not completed seating the class until the week before classes start

Consider this an opportunity to become better prepared - We always offer denied applicants the chance to receive feedback on their application -Often those who understand their weaknesses and act upon them have success later -Some may never be ready so always have a Plan B

9 WHY OHIO STATE? Once You are Accepted When you receive your offer and are sure you want to come to OSU, send back the acceptance form and fee. In addition, mail back technical standards form This will trigger a notice to create your OSU e-mail account We do most of our communications through e- mail so make sure we don’t end up in your spam

10 WHY OHIO STATE? Preparing to Start School We will have a place on the web with information you will need to know Housing options Vaccination requirements Book orders Orientation schedule You are a doctor-to-be and we expect you to be self directing

11 WHY OHIO STATE? Orientation You are required to participate in this event which is held for 3 days before classes start -August 20 and 21, 2015 (tentative) Classes start Tuesday, August 25, 2015

Career Areas of Emphasis (CAEs) – Food animal, small animal, equine, mixed, individualized Spend 2 weeks each in large ambulatory practice, shelter medicine Can choose rotations in many specialty services including theriogenology, behavior, ophthalmology, oncology, surgery, cardiology, dermatology Our 4 th Year Curriculum

17 WHY OHIO STATE? Residency OSU is one of the few schools that allows students to become residents for tuition purposes after matriculation. This can have a huge financial impact so when deciding look at costs over 4 years. We will help you navigate but it is each students’ responsibility to meet and document the requirements

Residency Registrar.osu.edu/residency (ssc@osu.edu) Registrar.osu.edu/residency You MUST prove you are financially independent of anyone from out of state for 12 months Plan ahead, they will look back 1 year to make sure your account hasn’t been padded by family just before you come You cannot leave the state for more than 2 weeks that first summer and a total of 30 days in the year
