2. July 16, 2013 Baking Soda for Kids! 2 How can you inflate a balloon without blowing into it? Fill an empty soda bottle with:  2 Tbsp water  1 tsp baking soda  4 Tbsp lemon juice or vinegar Quick! Put a balloon over the top of the bottle! The baking soda releases carbon dioxide, which blows up the balloon!

3. July 16, 2013 Baking Soda for Kids! 3 How can you make apple seeds dance? Fill a glass with 4 oz. water. Stir in 1 tsp. baking soda. Drop 4 or 5 apple seeds into the solution. Add 4 tsp. lemon juice or white vinegar. Stir gently. Carbon dioxide bubbles push the apple seeds to the water’s surface. The seeds fall each time the bubbles burst. It looks like the seeds are dancing!

4. July 16, 2013 Baking Soda for Kids! 4 How can you make water change colors? Put shredded red cabbage leaves in a ziploc bag. Add hot water to the bag and zip it shut. Wait until the water has cooled. It should now be blue. Add 1 Tbsp. baking soda to the bag. The water turns green! Add 2 to 3 Tbsp. white vinegar to the bag. The water turns purple! Chemicals inside the cabbage react differently to acids (i.e. vinegar) and alkalies (i.e. baking soda). The water will change color depending on what you add to the cabbage leaves.

5. July 16, 2013 Baking Soda for Kids! 5 What’s the best way to clean your dolls’ clothes? Mix 2 Tbsp baking soda into 2 cups water. Soak dirty dolls’ clothes. Rinse clothes. Air-dry clothes. They’re clean and ready for your doll!

6. July 16, 2013 Baking Soda for Kids! 6 How can you make ghost footprints? Trace your feet on a piece of cardboard. Cut the shape of your feet out of the cardboard, leaving behind footprint stencils. Put the stencils on a carpeted surface. Sprinkle baking soda over the stencils. Take away the stencils. BOO! Ghostly white footprints are left behind on the carpet.
