Why Volunteer Things to think about Philosophy and profile of the group or organisation Does it fit for you? Do you feel comfortable with the work the organisation does? Is it consistent with your own values?

Why Volunteer Tasks – Role Description Can you easily do the tasks? Will you get satisfaction, enjoyment out of it? Is there anything I will need to do the tasks? Who will provide it? What materials, equipment will be needed or special area, space?

Why Volunteer Time commitment Does that fit with my lifestyle? Are those day(s)/time free for me? Where will the task be performed Is it close to home? How will I get there? Will I be sharing/working alongside someone else ?

Why Volunteer Is travel reimbursed? Who will I be working with? Will I be on my own? Do I need social interaction with others? Who do I report to?

Why Volunteer What to expect? Application Form to complete Name, address, phone, previous work, any volunteer experience, areas of interest and expertise, availability, driver’s licence, first aid training, previous convictions, referees, emergency contact, special requirements. Some may ask for c.v. Interview At the organisation, allow half to three quarters of an hour, Ask Questions Check out information on completed application form, similar to job interview

Why Volunteer Health and Safety It is a fundamental requirement of the organisation to provide and maintain a healthy and safe place to work, and to protect its employees/volunteers from injury and its property from accidental damage.

Why Volunteer Volunteer Responsibilities Volunteers have the responsibility to: Make an informed decision to work as a volunteer With the organisation Undertake work orientation and training as required Work within the job description on tasks suitable to their skills and experience. Behave in an ethical manner.

Why Volunteer cont… Keep your organisation’s client matters confidential Be committed to your organisation’s aims and objectives. Inform your organisation when unable to undertake or complete an assignment Use appropriate channels of communication within your organisation when needing information, support, back up, supervision or review.

Why Volunteer Volunteer Rights To be treated as a co-worker with staff and other volunteers To be assigned work that is meaningful To receive appropriate orientation, training, support and supervision To be kept informed your organisation’s policies and services To have a clear job description Be reimbursed for out of pocket expenses, providing prior approval
