Flight Delay Data Analysis CSE 140 A research to find major factors that cause a flight to be late
2
Motivation My motivation for this research is to make convenience for people who often travel by air. We might notice that flights of some certain routes or some certain airlines are really more likely to be late than others. My research will find out what they are and what the most major reason of being late is so that people could avoid them on the next time they choose a flight. My motivation for the recommendation function is to help people quickly and accurately find the best flight to where they are going.
3
Summary of my project Find top 10 tail numbers, airline companies, destinations and origins that are more likely to be late individually Compare and contrast the results to determine the most major factor that causes a flight to be late There is also a recommendation function in my project that helps people find the flight between their destination and origin with least average late time.
4
Result Airplanes with tail number start with “N” and follow with digits only such as “N27318” are significantly more likely to be late than other airplanes. An airline company with id “19393” is significantly more likely to be late than other airlines. Large cities like Atlanta and Chicago are very like to cause planes to be both late coming in and late going out. By comparing the probability of each factor that causes lateness, tail number with probability of 52.5% is the highest. Therefore, plane type is the most major factor that causes delay.
