2 HISTORY OF VOLLEY BALL On February 9, 1895, in Holyoke, Massachusetts, one of the states in USA, William G. Morgan who was a PE teacher in YMCA, created a new game called Mintonette (the name of the volley ball in past time.) as a pastime to be played indoors and by any number of players. The game took some of characteristics from tennis and handball. Another indoor sport, basketball, was catching on in the area, having been invented just sixteen kilometers away in the city of Springfield, Massachusetts, only four years before. Mintonette was designed to be an indoor sport, less rough than basketball, for older members of the YMCA, while still requiring a bit of athletic effort.

3 RULES AND REGULATIONS OF THE VOLLEY BALL The players should make ball go to another side of the court with out ball bouncing on our teams court. The payers can use dig, volley and spike to hit the ball, make the ball go to the other side of the court. The team can serve 3 times, but if they lose a point, the chance of serving goes to another team. The team have to score 25 points in a game in order to win the match. The player cannot touch the net and can’t catch the ball.

4 TRAINING TECHNIQUES OF VOLLEY BALL You need to do a lot of leg exercise to jump higher You need to exercise regularly so that you can have a lot of endurance so that you don’t get tired easily. You should practice the skills every day so that you can perform skills well in the match.

5 VOLLEY BALL SKILLS Volley: One of the passing skill which is able to use when the ball is in higher position than my head. Bump: Also one of the passing skill which is able to use when the ball is lower than my head. Spike: Act of hitting the ball hard to the opponent’s side. Under hand serve: One of the serving skill hitting the bottom of the ball. Sky serve: The other type of serving skill, throw the ball up and hit the ball to the other side of the court. Blocking: Act of jump in front of the net with both of your hands raised up and block the spike.

6 VOLLEYBALL TEAMS IN MY HOME COUNTRY (KOREA) There are a lot of teams in Korea. Men’s club: Korean air Jumbos, Rush N Cash Vespio, Samsung Blue pangs, Woori card Volleyball team, Hyundai Skywalkers, Kepco Vixtorms and LIG Greaters Women’s club: Korea Expressway Corporation volleyball team, hyundai volleyball team, hongkuk pink spiders, GS KIXX, KGC volleyball team and IBK Altos

7 VOLLEYBALL IN MY COUNTRY (KOREA) MEN In the World League, Korea has finished 13th in 2008, 14th in 2009, 16th in 2010, 13th in 2011 and 14th in 2012. The national team also finished third at the Asia Men’s Volleyball Championships in 2007 and 2009 and 11th at the 2007 World Cup.

8 VOLLEYBALL IN MY COUNTRY (KOREA) WOMEN The South Korea women's national volleyball team represents South Korea in international volleyball competitions and friendly matches. It was one of the leading squads in the world in 1970's, 1990's and still one of the best team in Asian women's volleyball, having won the bronze medal at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Canada, forth at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Germany, 2012 Summer Olympics in London.
