“Safety is central to good performance and requires neatness, cleanliness, and good housekeeping” The company takes a lot of time working on keeping safety controls in place with this being a primary focus.

Their top four objectives regarding safety include: To eliminate all injuries To eliminate or reduce exposure to excessive levels of jobsite health hazards To eliminate damage to property To eliminate or reduce environmental hazards

DG Companies want to make sure its employees clearly understand all of their responsibilities through several error-prevention processes… Job Hazard Analysis—workers find and help make other people aware of possible risks and dangers when using certain equipment or doing certain tasks Safety Auditing—reviewing workers on the job when they are completing a job to ensure compliance

Tool Box Talks—Managers/Supervisors talking with their workers about important safety precautions to take when on the job Safety Training—constantly updating workers as to new hazards in the work environment as well as new protective equipment available to protect employees from job hazards

DG wants to clearly state exactly what the responsibilities of the employees are and how they are maintaining a safe work environment for their employees Superintendents and foremen are trained on how the company wants its employees to perform certain tasks and expects them to lead by example There is a disciplinary program in effect in order to enforce these rules

Crucial to eliminating unsafe behavior and prevent accidents DG Companies have pre-employment, random, post-accident, reasonable cause, and return to duty drug testing. Punishment of breaking these rules include: Suspension Removal from the job site

DG Company created a committee including the Safety Director as well as representatives from management, each company, superintendants, foremen, and workers. Its main concerns: Identifying the issues of proper health, safety and environmental issues Provide guidance for investigations regarding accident, injury, and property damage investigations Help with maintaining employees attitude towards compliance with the safety rules

The Program is called “I GET IT” They chose the name in order to emphasize the fact that safety is a commitment and everyone is responsible for keeping the work environment a safe place. It is a process that takes a lot of planning. Taking the time to promote safety benefits the business in the long run.

Denton has found a way to reward the employees who exhibit a high level of safety awareness as well as taking leadership roles in the Safety Program itself. It acknowledges those that understand the whole point of safety. They understand it. They practice it. They “Get it.”
