2. how were women's lives different in 1920? During the 1920's women were never considered as people but as property. It was believed that women should be at home cleaning, taking care of the children, and focused on religion while men took care of business and politics. In North Carolina opponents of the woman's suffrage claimed that women were not equal to men mentally. By 1929 women didn't have the same rights as men but they did have some. Women were finally allowed to be apart of local, state, and national political committees.

What is a flapper? ● A flapper was a fashionable young women intended to enjoy herself and flouting conventional standards of behavior. ● Flappers wore really short skirts and weren't afraid to show a little skin that was considered inappropriate for women back then. In addition they wore excessive amount of makeup

Why did flappers become prominent? ● Flappers became prominent because they became the face of a “young women rebellion”. ● the term “flapper” was described as a new breed of women, or also described as a young bird; since women gain their rights they were like baby birds learning to fly for the first time. ● In the eyes of the media women were started to become a disgusting and unrespected form.

6. -The 19th amendment of the United States Constitution granted American women the right to vote. It wasn’t until 1848 that the movement for women’s rights launched on a national level with a convention held in Seneca Falls, New York, organized by abolitionists Elizabeth Cady Stanton (1815-1902) and Lucretia Mott (1793-1880). After the convention, the demand for the vote became a centerpiece of the women’s rights movement. Stanton and Mott, along with Susan B. Anthony (1820-1906) and other activists, created organizations that raised public awareness and pushed the government to grant voting rights to women. After a 70-year battle, these groups finally emerged victorious with the passage of the 19th Amendment. What was the 19th Amendment?

8. Interesting Fact #2 - Women had worn some unusual fashions to enhance their bodies. In the 18th century, women wore “pocket hoops” to make their hips appear larger.

She felt that young women should feel free to postpone marriage and family in order to pursue their education and career.
