Solar Proposal Loudoun Valley High School Our Plan to Utilize Solar Energy
3
Schools across the nation have already started exploring solar energy. This school in California uses solar panels on its roof to power the school and to save $10,000 a year on electricity. By installing a solar panel sign, Loudoun Valley could serve as an inspiration for other local schools to follow suit. Imagine a whole school system powered by solar energy… It may be so far off, but every great work starts with something small.
4
Solar energy is more environmentally friendly… Saves considerable amounts of money for schools… And even eases technical maintenance.
5
By installing one small solar panel Loudoun Valley could set off a chain reaction to conversion to solar energy.
6
…And as one small school, Valley could contribute to helping the world become more and beautiful each day

This is Loudoun Valley’s Entrance Sign. We like to think that our sign conveys pride in our school, strength in our students, and sends a message of inspiration to all that view it. But this year Loudoun Valley students hope to create a new entrance sign that could mean all this and something more
9
Loudoun Valley High School has proposed that a new entrance sign be designed. This sign would be illuminated by solar energy in hopes to draw attention to Loudoun valley’s wish to eventually convert the entire school to solar energy. This solar powered road sign uses a small solar panel to light itself.
10
Phase One - School Sign Easy and low cost opportunity to light our school entrance sign. Cost is approximately $4,000 Loudoun Valley Solar Project
11
Phase Two - Parking Lot Lights Disconnect parking lot lights from the utility grid and replace them with solar LCD lights. Cost is approximately $15,000
12
Phase Three - Trailers Advantages: 1.Abundant sunlight in the area. 2.Availability of space to install panels. 3.Proximity to public view. Phase Three Continued….
13
4.Trailers are ALL electric and served by one meter. 5. Energy use by trailers is limited and controlled, thus reducing the cost of installation. Cost is approximately $20,000 to service all trailers.
14
Phase Four - Water Heater Installing roof panels of boiler building to pre- heat water used by the school’s water heater. This would drastically reduce school operating costs by cutting back on oil currently used to heat the boiler. Cost is approximately $40,000
15
Phase 5 … Installation of solar power for gymnasium and soccer stadium. Approximate cost: $80,000
