What is a goal? A goal is a purpose toward which an effort is focused.

What is Career Goal Setting? Is a powerful tool which improves performances and leads to accomplishments in life.

5 Criteria to Set Goals Be specific- the goal should identify a specific action or event that will take place. Measurable- the goal and its benefits should be measureable. Achievable- the goal should be attainable. Realistic- the goal should be practical with actually having it happen and being successful. Timely- the goal should have a time period with which it will be accomplished.

Types of Goals Long Term Goals Things you hope to accomplish in 10 years. Short Term Goals Things that can be achieved in a short time period 5 years.

Why is Career Goal setting important? Helps plan everyday tasks Shows achievement Produces suitable priorities Enhances performance Gives meaning to your activity Gives direction and purpose Makes for an easier decision process

How to set Effective Career Goals Develop several goals State your goals as intentional and powerful Attach a specific date to each of your goals including both long term and short term goals. Share your goals with others around you that are supportive. Write down you goals and put them were you can see them to remind you. Review and revise your list often to update.

How to set Priorities Be aware of how you are currently spending your time. Assess how satisfied you are with the way you are spending your time Set new priorities to start doing more of the important things in your life.

Action Plan Make definite goals Write them down Read your goals daily for modification if needed Check your progress periodically

Positive Reinforcement Celebrate your success once you have achieved your goals even if it is a small goal. Do something for yourself that motivates you to the next short or long term goal. GOOD LUCK!
