International Year of Volunteers 2001 UN General Assembly proclaimed 2001 as the International Year of Volunteers in recognition of the valuable contribution of voluntary action in addressing global issues UNV designated as the focal point for the Year’s preparation, implementation and follow- up 123 national committees were created Large numbers of stakeholders through internet at all levels (World Volunteer Web)

IYV+10 2011 Enhance and expand results of IYV Develop national strategies Showcase volunteerism for peace and development in different thematic areas during UN Days (health, environment, human rights…) Showcase diversity of volunteerism (types of schemes, volunteer profiles…) Some events: Launch on 5/12 Summit on volunteerism and MDGs in NY 3/2011 Events of stakeholders around the world Exhibition Volunteers of the World 2 UNGA sessions on IYV+10 in September 2011
