MEMORIES FROM POLAND THE SEA MY CITY AND ME 2011-13

MEMORIES FROM POLAND The idea of participating in the Comenius project “The Sea, my City and Me”, especially after meeting the coordinators and some of the other participants in the flesh, had been something more than enticing in the first place. However, the first visit to Poland far exceeded our expectations, as it proved quite educational and recreational. Especially the trips to Gdansk and Sopot were really interesting, not to mention the beautiful, mainly in its suburban area, Gdynia. But the most amazing experience of all was the hospitality,open-heartedness and sociability of the Polish team including teachers, students and parents together with the artistic talents of the Polish teachers and the humor and quite positive attitude of the Polish coordinator. On top of all this, I should say that I had a great time in Poland and undoubtedly made some new friends. Foteini Sifinou Greek school coordinator

Our trip to Poland was definitely a life-changing experience. We visited several places, learnt about remarkable events concerning the local history and also had the chance to get familiar with the Polish life style. When it comes to the accommodation and the host family, they took really good care of me and made me feel comfortable during my stay. Nonetheless, as far as I am concerned, the most enjoyable parts of this trip were the group activities. This is because we had the opportunity to meet peers from different countries, listen to their opinions, exchange information and of course make new friends. So this trip to Poland was full of pleasant memories and incredible experiences. Maria Sotiropoulou, student At the beginning of September 2011, Maria and I were invited to participate in the new Comenius project but what followed was nothing like what we had expected ; it actually reached far beyond our expectations. I was arranged to stay at Sandra’s house with a typical Polish family. Similarly, Maria was to stay with Sandra’s friend, Martyna. They are both 15 and attend a public high school in Gdynia. The opening ceremony was exceptional. Over the next few days we went on interesting trips, my favourite being the one to the medieval castle and of course I really enjoyed the day I spent at the Polish school, attending the lessons. When it comes to the host family, I would like to say a lot, but I will stick to one thing: although Sandra’s parents didn’t speak English at all, they made me feel like home and offered me what I needed. Many thanks. As for Sandra and the rest of the children, they were all great and we made a wonderful team. Literally, together with the excursions and the hospitality of the Polish people they made this trip one of the best experiences in my whole life. Antonia Tsepeneka, student
