Newton’s 3 Laws of Motion By: Katie Pope 1
2
2 Isaac Newton is one of the most famous mathematicians who ever lived. You may have heard of the way he famously discovered the force of gravity.
3
A force is a push or pull on an object. It gives an object the energy to MOVE, to Stop moving, or to ChAnGe direction. 3
4
Inertia- An object will retain its state of rest or velocity along a straight line, unless acted upon by an external force. We’ll look at more examples here: http://mansfieldct.org/Schools/MMS/staff/hand/lawsin ertia.htm http://mansfieldct.org/Schools/MMS/staff/hand/lawsin ertia.htm Gravity- A force of attraction causing two objects to be drawn to one another. - Every time you jump, you experience gravity Friction- A force that acts in an opposite direction of movement Here we can view more examples of friction: http://www.physics4kids.com/files/motion_friction.ht ml 4
5
(Law of Inertia) An object at rest will stay at rest, and an object in motion will stay in motion, unless acted upon by an unbalanced force. 5
