Trig. Basically deals with the study of triangles. Mathematicians use trig. to study relationships between the sides and angles of a triangle.
3
Where did Trig. originate? Trig. is believed to have originated from the Greek words “trigonon” and “metron” which mean triangle and measure.
4
Mathematician who founded trigonometry The main mathematician who invented trig was Hipparchus. Hipparchus was born at Nicaea in Bithynia and was believed to be the main mathematician who invented trig.
5
It’s used to find the distance between stars and other things in space Used in oceanography to calculate thetheight of the tides. Used to find the height of towers and mountains. Architects use it to determine structural load, roof slopes, ground surfaces, etc.
6
Trig functions The six trig functions are sine, cosine, tangent, Secant, Cosecant, and Cotangent. Three most used: sine, cosine, and tangent. Sine- Tangent- Cosecant- Cosine- Secant- Cotangent-
