Forces Acting on the Aircraft Karim Hafez Khan Academy Knowledge Video SYST 560 - 9/30/13
3
Forces Forces acting on Aircraft (Level Flight) ◦ Lift ◦ Weight ◦ Thrust ◦ Drag
4
Forces (Level Flight)
5
Lift The upward force generated mainly by the wings that keeps the aircraft in flight.
6
Weight (Gravity) Force due to gravity cause by the weight the of the aircraft and all of its components This downward force caused by the weight directly opposes lift
7
Thrust The main driving force of the aircraft caused by the engines and its propellers This force is directly opposed by drag
8
Drag The opposite rearward force that is induced by the forward force of thrust Parasite Drag – Drag caused by parts of the aircraft that don’t contribute to lift (i.e. fuselage) Included Drag- Drag caused by parts of the aircraft that produce lift (i.e. wings)
