Calculating Body Mass Index (BMI) Body Mass Index (BMI) is used to assess a persons body weight. The number given allows you to see if you are underweight, normal weight, overweight or obese; Weight (Kgs)= BMI Height(m) x Height(m) OR Weight (lbs) x 704.5 = BMI Height(inches) x Height(inches)

e.g You are 1.57m tall. You weigh 65kg. BMI = 65 = 26 (1.57 x 1.57) Calculate your BMI using the apparatus available.

Compare your result to the weight status based on BMI; Under 20 (19 for women) = Under weight Between 20 and 24.99 = Normal weight Between 25 and 29.99 = Overweight Between 30 and 34.99 = Obese Class 1 Bewteen 35 and 39.99 = Obese Class 2 40 and above = Extreme Obesity Extension – What are the disadvantages of BMI when predicting weight?
