VEGETABLES The ancient Egyptians used to eat many different kinds of vegetables. They ate chick peas, lentils, garlic, lettuce, onions, leeks, barley, wheat, tomatoes, cucumbers, olives, cabbage, radishes, and so much more. Wealth had a lot to do with what kinds of food a person in ancient Egypt ate. For example, a person who was poor would have a small variety of food to choose from. On the other hand, people who were wealthy had a large variety of food to choose from. Back then, Egypt was very plentiful due to the flooding of the Nile river. This made the soil along the Nile very fertile and suitable for farming.

FRUITS Ancient Egypt also had a large variety of fruit. They ate watermelon, pomegranates, grapes, plums, coconut, apples, mulberry fruit, apricot, almonds, lemons, peaches and many more. Many Egyptians had gardens next to their houses where they grew different types of fruits and vegetables. They used these gardens as food for their families. They also used some fruits as medicine. They ate what they could grow.Carob, for example, can be used for medicine. It is known for its chocolate like flavor. This was an important part of their diet.

POULTRY/BIRDS Just like any other kind of food in ancient Egypt, birds were eaten in many different things. Ancient Egyptians ate poultry in many different ways using many different methods of cooking. They would roast geese, quail, doves, pigeons, and duck over a fire. These were very simple dishes. They were cooked very often in ancient Egypt.

MEAT Meat was not common in ancient Egypt. Why is that? This is because the ancient Egyptians lived in a desert climate. There was very little rain. The only thing that they watered their crops with was left over flood water. This led to create terrible conditions for growing pastures for their animals to graze. Therefore, meat was rarely eaten, but was used in some dishes like fillet, beef ribs, liver, lamb, spleen and much more.

MEALS The ancient Egyptians ate whatever was available at that time. They ate dishes like hummus, duck, pigeon, spleen, quail, bean sprouts, lamb chops and much more. They used things like honey, yeast, sesame oil, vinegar, and walnuts in many of the dishes that they made. These dishes are still eaten today.

CONCLUSION In conclusion, the ancient Egyptians were very plentiful. They ate whatever they could. There were a lot of different dishes that they made. They made those out of many different kinds of fruits, vegetables, poultry, and meats. From this information, I learned a lot about the ancient Egyptian culture and daily life.
