1 Plural Nouns Plural means more than 1! There are several rules for making nouns plural.

2 Rule #1 For most nouns, simply add an “s” to make the noun plural.
Examples: birds, desks, girls, oceans, pencils, teachers

3 Examples: churches, foxes, bushes, buses, glasses, boxes
Rule #2 For nouns ending in ch, sh, ss, s, or x, add an –es to make the noun plural. Examples: churches, foxes, bushes, buses, glasses, boxes

4 Rule #3 Nouns that end with a consonant and y, change the y to i and add –es. Examples: city-cities, berry-berries, canary-canaries,

5 Rule #4 For nouns ending in a vowel and y, just add an s.
Examples: boy-boys, monkey-monkeys, donkey-donkeys

6 Rule #5 For some nouns, the word changes to a completely new word when forming the plural. Example: tooth-teeth, child-children, goose-geese, cactus-cacti, foot-feet

7 Rule #6 For some nouns, the singular and plural form are the exact same! Example: moose-moose, deer-deer, series-series
