Rock and Mineral Review Review for Science Test

Properties of rocks…  How did you describe Granite? ColorLusterHardnessTexture  How did you describe Slate? ColorLusterHardnessTexture

Why do you think we made different observations?

Scientists might interpret things differently…  This is why it is important for scientist to question each other. How did you see that? What kind of tools did you use?  It is also important for scientists to discuss and check evidence and explanations. What kind of evidence do you have to support your claim?

What are rocks made of?  Rocks are made of different minerals.  Granite is a rock made of different minerals. Which minerals can be found in granite? Quartz, mica, feldspar

How can we describe rocks?  We can describe rocks by using the properties of rocks: color, hardness, luster, and texture.  What does texture describe? Texture describes the way on object feels  What does luster describe? Luster describes how a rock or mineral reflects light.

What type of rock is Obsidian?*  Igneous  The Half Dome in Yosemite National Park is made up of what rock? Granite  The Grand Canyon is made up of whaat kind of rock? Sandstone

Which mineral is the hardest? Diamond  What kind of rock will you find at a beach?* sand, sandstone  Name a mineral we regularly eat in our diet* Salt, calcium, iron, potassium

Name 4 things made out of rocks and minerals than humans regularly use* Silverware, clay pottery, dishes, glass, sidewalks, steel Copper metal is used in… Pennies
