Fact (N.) MEANING: Information that is certain and can be proven fact SENTENCE: It is a fact that the Giants won the World Series in 2014. VARIATIONS: Synonyms: Data, Formation, Knowledge, Intelligence

Opinion (N.) MEANING: A judgment formed about something, not necessarily based on fact or knowledge opinion SENTENCE: It is my opinion that the Detroit Tigers are the best team in the MLB. VARIATIONS: Synonyms: Belief, Idea, Viewpoint

Argument (N.) MEANING: Opinions that can be backed up with evidence argument SENTENCE: My father and I often have an argument that the Boston Red Sox are better than the Detroit Tigers. VARIATIONS: Debate, Dispute, Point, Disagreement, Controversy,

Persuasion (N.) MEANING: To move another person or group to agree with a belief or position through argument, appeal, or course of action persuasion SENTENCE: I had to use persuasion to convince my dad that the Tigers are the best team in the MLB. VARIATIONS: Convince

MEANING: An opinion that is a matter of personal experience and values that must be backed up with evidence debatable claim SENTENCE: In the late 1990’s, the idea to build a new ball park for the Detroit Tigers was a debatable claim.
