2 CSW History 1972 established as UH Mānoa Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) 1986 in system wide reorganization renamed UH President’s CSW

4 CSW Mission Committed to the support, well-being, and advancement of all University of Hawai‘i women Advises UH President on issues concerning women on all campuses

5 CSW Responsibilities Evaluate campus climate for women Disseminate information Foster awareness Advocate safe and more civil campus enviroments Promote equity and advancement Support compliance with federal laws Encourage professional and personal development

6 CSW IMPACT Establishment of childcare at UHM Supported creation of Bridge to Hope program (2000) Instrumental in implementating UHM initial gender equity Title IX institutional plan Improved awareness of campus safety and security Initiated the 1993 pay equity study Instrumental in the development of sexual harassment policy

8 Safety and Security 2005 – UHM grant resulting in survey on violence against women 2006 – President’s Office provided research funds to conduct survey on all other campuses 2007-2009 Funding Request Analysis of survey for policy implications and program potential Implementation of new policies and programs

9 Women’s Leadership and Advancement 1. Create Administrative Fellowship Program (AFP) for women 2. Provide professional development for civil service and support staff 3. Encourage participation in national women’s leadership institutes 4. Develop a UH Women’s Student Leadership Program

10 1. Administrative Fellowship Program (AFP) for Women Identify, prepare, and support women for leadership and advancement within the university system Create internship program for women faculty and mid-level managers to work in senior administrative offices

11 2. Professional Development for Civil Service and Support Staff Funding for staff to attend professional development workshops Support release time to attend Encourage support from highest levels of administration

12 3. National Women’s Leadership Institutes Send qualified women to nationally recognized leadership institutes

Women Student Leadership Program Women’s Student Leadership Delegation One representative from each campus selected by CSW Attend AAUW - National Conference for College Women Student Leaders Delegation members will assist the CSW in creating programs for student leadership development UH Women Student Leadership Conference

14 Benefits to UH Safer and more civil environment Enhanced recruitment and retention of women faculty and administrators Expanded pool of qualified women for management positions Increased advancement opportunities for university women Cultivation of women student campus leaders

15 CSW Assessment Plans Review of the figure collected annually from the Cleary Act report. Figures should indicate progress with safety and security issues on campuses Review annually the number of women who have shown interest in participating in the leadership institutes and fellows program Track the number of women who advance to senior administrative positions from within the UH system Track the number of women who receive promotions within civil service and support staff personal who have been involved in the development programs

19 Budget Breakdown Administrative Fellowship Program (AFP) for Women 1. Estimated release time costs (9 months) per intern ranges from $13,000 to $20,000 2. Operating costs $10,000

20 Budget Breakdown Women Civil Service and Support Staff Development To provide assistance and release time for a Professional Development Program or Workshop for civil service and other support area (custodial, security, etc.) Cost $200 per person

21 Budget Breakdown National Leadership Institutes Provide an opportunity for selected women to attend national leadership institutes Cost $10,000 per participant

22 Budget Breakdown Student Leadership Program UH Women Student Conference Delegation Leadership Conference Cost $10,000 UH Women Student Leadership Delegation to the AAUW - National Conference for Women Student Leaders Cost $2,200/student
