Leading Children’s Worship Prepared by Teachable Heart Ministries
2
Introduction Music gives us the sense of joy that is part of all praise and worship. Suitable songs should: 1.Be easy to sing (lyrics and tune) 2.Have a specific purpose and message 3.With new songs introduced regularly
3
The Dos and Don’ts of Children’s Worship Don’t use music to kill time (be purposeful and plan your service) Do use visuals, posters, transparencies, powerpoint or dvds Do use songs with words and concepts that children will easily understand Do take the time to explain poetry in lyrics
4
A few more tips … Use quality sound equipment- the best you can afford Build a library of children’s music “split-track”- has voices on the right channel control and the music on the left control or vice versa. When using any type you should know your music very well so you can lead rather than letting the tape lead you. Listening cds, dvds and tapes are great for preservice, even for puppet songs
5
The Flow Generally the flow of children’s worship should be … fast, lively, action songs first. followed by medium-paced songs and conclude with slow worship songs.
6
The Focus Think about the bible point of the service and choose songs which explain or introduce key concepts Ask God to guide you to the slower worship songs that will minister to the kids in your service and could be sung as a prayer to end the service.
7
The Function Children sing action and medium-paced songs standing up. However, it has been my experience that children worship better sitting down. Ask them to close their eyes, and think about the lyrics while worshiping. If possible, dim the lights a little to quiet the room. Enlist several children to help as backup singers, or dancers

Remember “Fan into a flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands.” -2 nd Timothy 1:6 You can’t teach worship to kids, they need to catch passion for it from you!
