1
A ‘shocking’ discovery
2
In order for current to flow, the pathway must be a continuous, uninterrupted loop called a circuit.
4
Voltage Source Loads / Resistors Switches Breakers / Fuses
5
For current to flow continuously, a continuous source of voltage must be present This is normally in the form of a battery or generator
9
Breakers and fuses are used to prevent a circuit from pulling too much current and possibly causing a fire.
11
Fuse: A conductor link with a relatively low melting point. The link will melt when excess current overheats the fuse and will break the circuit.
12
Series Components connected in series are connected along a single path, so the same current flows through all of the components.current Parallel Components connected in parallel are connected so that each one has its own pathway of current
13
If any one of the devices fails, the interrupted circuit will cause the current to stop flowing and none of the devices will operate. (any examples?) Because each device uses up some of the potential energy, the voltage is divided among all of the devices.
16
A failure of one device will not interrupt the current flowing through the other devices. Because of the separate pathways, each device receives the full voltage provided by the source.
