BBC radio 4 has many different shows, and give many different types of information; Drama Comedy Documentary News Before 1967 there was the BBC home service which is what radio 4 replaced in the year 1967. You can get radio 4 through television channels and the internet and can be listened to in many different countries. Not one channel can compare with radio 4 because it is so expensive

Radio is currently more popular than radio 4 making radio 4 second in the eye of the British people. Radio2 has even won awards, it won best UK radio station of the year on many different occasions in 2003,2004 and 2008 (Sony radio academy awards)

The owner of radio 4 is a man called Mark Damazer. His job is to be taken over by Gwyneth William in October 2010. Radio 4 used to be controlled by Helen Boaden, now the head of the BBC News.

Radio 4 has been working very hard to reinvent their image because most non listeners have a view that radio 4 is boring, conservation middle classed and attract and cater only for those types of people. This is not the case Radio 4 has tried to mix it up and offer a range of programmes for all people from all walks of life. News bulletins on currents affairs and many others such as comedy, factual and drama. Woman's hour is a period of time where woman say their worries, concerns and problems with each other and any other woman can come in with their thoughts, ideas and of course their help. The topics they talk about can be anything they choose and sometimes are also quite serious and meaningful. To anyone who doesn't know what it is it can seem like a sexist hour of feminine talk and feminist action, this is not the case, the topics vary from health to politics or basically anything that interests woman.

Today is BBC radio 4`s early morning current events programme which is broadcasted early mornings during the week starting at 6.00 am and runs for three hours and on Saturday 7.00 am and runs for 2 hours. This does not run on Sundays It is Radio 4`s most listened to programme and is most successful over all the BBC radios. It has a whopping 6.6 million listeners a day. It has many very serious topics to cover on all current events from politics to religion and is considered the most influential news programme in Britain.

In the year when oil was being discovered in the North Sea, the Boeing 747 made its maiden flight, and Edward Heath was preparing to take us into the EEC, the BBC also gave birth to You and Yours. Their first broadcast took place on October 5th 1970 to be exact and now they are looking for listeners, ex staff and guests who remember those early programmes.You and Yours You and Yours is basically news and discussion of consumer affairs. It airs at 12 noon only on weekdays

Audience data for March 2010 to June 2010 TSA: This radio station broadcast to a survey area of 51,618,000 adults (aged 15+). Reach: It was listened to by 10,403,000 people (20.%) each week. Hours: Each listener tuned in for 12.3 hours per week - a total of 128,410,000. Share: In its area, it had a 12.5% market share.

There have been criticisms voiced by newspapers in recent years over a perceived "left-wing" bias at Radio 4 across a range of issues such as the EU and the Iraq War. People have complained about the `today show` saying it is too blunt and way too biased. People also have problems and say that radio 4 have an overtly socially and culturally conservative approach.
