Peer Assessment Students internalize the characteristics of quality work by evaluating the work of their peers Must have a clear understanding of what they are to look for in their peers' work. Important to explain expectations clearly to them before they begin. There is a need for rubrics or checklists to guide their assessments Provides immediate detailed feedback Removes personal bias on controversial topics Peer & Self Evaluation

Peer Evaluation Practice Peer & Self Evaluation To make sure students understand this type of evaluation it is helpful to create a practice session. Gives students a sample completed assignment. Students assess this using the rubric criteria and compare to my assessment and the determine how to convey feedback clearly to the fictitious student.

Peer Evaluation Success Students are generally honest (participation mark helps). Make sure they understand the rubric Definitely helps students internalize the characteristics of quality work. Peer & Self Evaluation The quality always get better after the first couple of presentations.
